I believe it was the crank position sensor like Rod posted not pulser coil.
also check to make sure your alarm system is working properly.
Could be you are having overheat putting into RPM reduction and you buzzer is not sounding. It limits RPM to about 2000
Not sure on that C60 but my C40 retards timing to limit RPM when overheat switch closes. so it is easy to check with timing light.
Do you have gauges that would indicate an alarm ?

Rod or Boscoe does this motor retard timing or miss fire spark plugs duing the RPM reduction mode?
