2002 90 HP Yamaha power trim does not work. Power trim fluid level is OK and I can hear the power trim pump activate when the up / down switch is activated at the motor & driver seat. I have been advised that this motor had a problem with the power trim piston. Any advise would be appreciated.

The pump has check valves in it that can get stuck if the trim/tilt has not been used in a while. You might try loosening the bypass valve on the pump (your owners manual shows where) and manually raising and lowering the outboard - you might need a little help because you are picking up a couple hundred pounds.
By manually circulating the fluid thru the pump and piston, maybe the check valves will start working properly - it's worth a try. Otherwise you are looking at an overhaul of the pump.
