Lower Unit Tap

One of my 1985,150,etxk's has a periodic tap. When I turn it's prop by hand, it grabs, then releases. Dos this sound like a bearing; is there any way to tell without taking it apart? Please Help!: Thanks for info - When fully in gear and underway tap still persist - will buy speacial tools, take apart and have a look see.

Look to see if there is metal fragments on bottom drain screw in gearcase which be a sign of damage inside gearcase. Check to see if prop shaft is bent.

Check also your shift linkage to be sure it is engaging all the way!!

When my gear wasn't all the way into neutral it did that too.
