Yamaha 9.9 tiller conversion

I just bought a lightly used 9.9t 1999 for my sail boat. It is currently tiller con*****ed with a three pin harness. I would like to convert it to remote controls. I currently have a push button start switch and old johnny rude control box with cables for the mid 80s. Any suggestions? Is the three pin harness strictly for the charging system?
