40HP won't trim all the way up

My Yamaha 40HP has been having difficulty trimming up for a while and I'm hoping someone can advise of a fix. It trims down fine. But will only power trim up about 1/4 to 1/2 the way. I have to manually pull up as/after the power trim has been engaged in the up position in order to raise the motor up enough to lock in the fully upright. Also when I trim it back down the cylinders make a sound like fluids squishing- if that's an actual description.

Appreciate any help on figuring out what part(s) I should replace to correct this.

Have you checked to see the fluid level is up where it should be? If not, do so, as it sounds as if you might simply be low on fluid. How it got that way could be another question worth tracking down for the long haul, if you are low.
