Newbie....I just bought a used motor 9.9sg

I just bought a used outboard motor Yamaha 9.9 2-stroke.
The id tag says: 9.9sg 682C S 079726
What year is this motor? and what does that id tag tell me about it?

It's a 1988 model.

What part of the id tells you the date?
I was told it was a 1998 by the guy I bought it from.
