First off this my first post, I have a 1989? Pro V 150 the model on the ID plate is Pro V 150F. My problem is I've cleaned the carbs out (big help) the #1 cyl according to my timing light is right at #1 TDC. When I put it on #5 it'll read that cyl about 10 revolutions and without changing anything it'll jump to reading #2 cyl all by itself ?????????? It will not get on plane good at all. I put new plugs in it and pulled after about 30 minutes of running. #5 cyl plug was wet but very different from the rest? (firing problem) compression check all cylinders 120 psi give or take 2 psi. Any suggestions.

You can swap #3 coil with #5 coil to see if it's a coil failure. The pulsor coil, charge coil and CDI output would need to be tested with peak reading volt meter to see if ok.

Thank you for responding, can I check the reading with a fluke volt meter? I will swap the coils to see whats going on. Do you know the degree of timing on this motor? And one more question is a 120psi cylinder check acceptable. I've fixed the tach since I had it out the last time so I'll know what it's doing a little better. Thanks Ray, I go through Lake Placid quite a bit, nice place.

You can buy a DVA adapter for the Fluke meter and it works great.
Timing is -7 at idle and 28 degrees at wot.
120lbs compression is ok.

No a Fluke will not work without a DVA (Direct Voltage Adapter), you can buy one or make one yourself. I found a couple of schematics in different forums that show different size capacitors and resistors and a diode.
I used a .47 uf 600VDC cap because that is what I could find and it gave me a close reading (within 6 volts at 200 v of a DVA meter that I borrowed to see how it worked)Attached Files
