  • The 225 & 250 OX66

    Gents,
Considering upgrading to a 25' Grady. Most of these boats came through with 225's and a few T/150's. I've seen a few 01's & 02's with the 250. General consensus is that with twin anything they're going to be gas hogs and I think I'll eliminate those. Although I have a single 150 now that runs great. I've read a couple 100 pages of posts on here and the 225's are a little prone to blowing up. Oil injection failed or overheated seems to be the cause. I don't understand how they run on 4-cyls when idling. How are the other 2 cyls lubricated? Is the system that controls this complicated? Why is it used? Sensor and plug fouling? I thought these injection pumps leaned the oil to 100:1 at idle. I know nothing about the 250. Was that a white elephant or what? Is this a HPDI in the 2001 vintage? Can these big motors give me the same reliability that I get with my 150? Opinions and facts welcome.

    Thanks Guys!!

The ECU on fuel injected engine controls idle, timing and fuel injection.
The HPDI engine did have some problems but Yamaha found a solution and since the oil pump updates we have not had any problems with them.
Oil is still injected into each cylinder regardless if is cylinder fires or not that has never been a problem.

        Hey Bigfish,
I knew you had these. What kind of fuel usage do you get?? Someone said 10% of HP rating. I believe you said your rigs are twins, if that's the case your getting 45-gal hr?? Holy crap!! Does the 4-stroke version put the same PH to the prop?

correct one boat has twin 250's on it however all of my boats are set up for maximum efficency i get between 29 and 38 gph depending on the load fuel, gear clients etc. the best i have ever seen on a trip to the tortugas at 27 gph wide open with a little more than 1 foot chop on the water. and almost no fuel left 3 gals or so. it all really depends on setup and if you listen to all of the expierence and knowledge on this forum u cant go wrong and i swaer by that.
