Is there a difference between Yamaha gear case lube and Quicksilver gear lube, Manual says to use yamaha gear case lube in lower unit 1991 Yamaha L4 3.0 Sterndrive

probably very little difference but you'll most likely feel better with the Yamaha product in your lower unit. they're both 80-90 gear lube with corrosion inhibitors, etc. in them. I use Walmart gear lube in my 90HP yamaha and no issues or problems for 10+ years now. It's a closed gearbox and when I drain it every year the oil looks just the same coming out as the new oil going in. I believe the main reason for draining gear oil yearly is to check for leaking seals. I've had motors before with leaking seals in the gearbox and I'll tell you it doesn't take much salt water to eat up the lower end gears/bearings/etc. Good Luck!
