I tried to remove the valve cover to check the valve adjustment. I followed the instruction in the Yamaha Outboard Shop Manual B791.
I was able to remove all the valve cover screws and loosen the cover.
I was not able to lift it up and slide it out. The two camshalt pulleys overlap that end of the valve cover and limit how much the cover can be lifted up. When I did lift it up to the limit and attempted to slide it forward, it would hit a cam or camshaft cap and not allow the cover to slide forward to clear the camshaft pulleys.
Should the cams be in a certain position?
Do I need to remove or slide the camshaft pulleys forward (not mentioned in the manual)?
