How to test Gauges if they work before installing.

Does any one know if i can test a gauge to see if they work. I would like to test it outside of the boat. I disconected my old gauge which was working but was al scratch up and when i connect the new one and match the wires , it does not turn on so i want to see if it is the gauge or some thing is wrong.

I don't know what kind or what gauge you have, but if wired up correctly it should work.
