I have a 2005 F90D 4-stroke with a 'skipping' problem that has gotten worse over the last 6 outings.
It started as an occasional (once every 45 seconds or so) skip while cruising (4k+ rpm). It then started creeping down into lower RPMs and becoming more frequent. Now it skips pretty much at any RPM and occurs about every 10 seconds. High RPMs seem to have more problems but twice over the past weekend I was able to run at 3k rpm for a good 20 minutes with no skipping. There is definitely a loss of power - I'd estimate the boat is moving half the speed it used to with higher RPMs being more noticeable. It had been idling flawlessly until just the other day when it stalled twice at idle after being started.
I have drained and refilled the tank, removed the old factory filter element and installed an external fuel filter/water separator with no positive results.
Based upon other posts I'm guessing the next step is cleaning the carburetor and inspecting/replacing the plugs and wires?
I'd appreciate any guidance or words of wisdom. Thanks!
