threaded hole in mid-section

I was greasing my 96 s150txru and noticed a threaded hole (maybe #8 size) too small for a zerk fitting. It is located about 2 inches above the roller ball for the power trim rods(port side). Opposite side (starboard) is a zerk with a wire lead atached. Is there something that goes into it? I was thinking about installing a screw with some sealant. For now I just filled the hole with grease to prevent water intrusion.

No I don't recall anything mounted there, unless a stay for the speedo hose.
