  • 2003 60hp Prop Selection

I own a 2003 Sea Chaser 170BR V-Hull boat with a 2003 Yamaha 60hp (2-stroke) outboard. I bought it used with the factory 13.5" x 15p aluminum prop installed. This prop would push the boat loaded to about 33mph at 5300rpm. Holeshot was not all that great, but the prop was fairly worn.

I purchased a Stiletto Advantage Q 13-1/8" x 15p and took it out for a test run. The prop would blow out every time I tried to accelerate too hard without trimming the motor just right. I would then have to re-trim to get it past 3200rpm. This one topped out around 28mph at the same 5200-5300rpm. The RPM was erratic the whole way up due to slippage.

Now I'm working on a swap with the factory. I was thinking to go with the Advantage I series for the extra 1/8" of diameter and added cupping, but they are recommending that I stay with the Q series and let them add cupping since they suspect the cupping on mine was washed out during the finishing process.

I thought the Advantage Q series was Raked specifically for the 4-stroke outboards, but he is telling me that it should work fine on a 2-stroke as well. He says the Q series is basically a copy of the Yamaha K series prop.

Any thoughts on this, or ideas of what I should do?

Anyone? I need to make a decision on this quick. Thanks.

The Stiletto is a more aggresive prop than the aluminum prop, but I would go with their recommendations that should solve the slippage.

It's on it's way back. He said he's going to take a look at the cupping that's already on the prop and make a decision from there. I just hope the second shot is this right one and I don't have to return this thing again.

Based on all of the calculators I've used I should be running a 13-1/4" or 13-1/2" x 15P prop. Hopefully they can get the 13-1/8" x 15p that they're recommending to hook.

This may be too late to help, but my 2000 60Hp 2-stroke came with the same prop. I have a Pro175 G3 bassboat. I switched to a Yammie 14 pitch steel prop with a cup and went from 32.6 GPS to 36 GPS. That is with 21 gallons of gas, my gear and me on smooth water. I had to change the trim from the 15 pitch aluminum.
