gauge to an older (pre-2001) Yamaha o/b with 3-wire sender. I purchased a Faria trim gage ($25) that is made for pre-2001 Yamahas and simply hooked the pink wire to the sender terminal and the black to the ground terminal. The orange wire is not used. I did have to run a seperate ground wire also to the gauge terminal (not sure if this means that I have an engine ground issue??).
It works perfectly and I didn't have to get rid of my new matching gauges to use this 115.
You must get a gauge that specifically states pre-2001 Yamaha as I believe that these are the only engines that use a sender that operates with 110 (down) ~ 411 (up) ohms resistence. Faria and Teleflex both have gauges for this application.
I hope this helps someone else because I did a lot of research and most said it wouldn't work. I found an old Yamaha veteran mechanic and he was sure that it would work because he had done it many times. He was right.
