2003 F225 Shift Problem

I have a shifting problem going from forward to neutral. Its very stiff and in seems like it binds on a cam in the controls. Neutral to forward, reverse to neutral and neutral to reverse is fine. Its only from forward to neutral.
This didn't gradually happen, it was sudden.

I disconnected the cable at the motor and it didn't help.
It really feels like the controls are binding.

It's usually cables, try installing new cable with premium cable like Yamaha MAR-CABLE-xx-SC(replace xx with length cable needed)
