F250 6X0 Control Box

When underway in choppy water the throttle control jumps back to lower speeds when the boat hits a wave. I have tried to adjust the friction screw and when pushing the throttle forward it is now very hard but the throttle goes back way too easy. Even if I just touch it to slow the motor it goes back easy but it goes forward too hard. I would have thought that the action would be much smoother.
