How does the engine determine in is in gear or neutral? Does the signal from the shift switch do this. I am fighting a high speed misfire that I believe is coming from the cylinders cutting out because the CDI thinks the engine is in neutral.

From what I see it is a on-off micro switch when put in gear it temporarily closes grounding the ignition. When it closes does that signal go to the cdi telling it the engine is in gear? Would you happen to know which cylinders would drop ? The CCS affects 2 and 5 in neutral only? but anything over 1800 RPM in gear I should be firing on all six. Sorry for all the questions. This issue has been a challenge chasing fuel and ignition but I am finally thinking this switch is the culprit.
