How to test fuel gauge (analog) '97 90HP

Please give me a procedure for testing my fuel gauge (analog)and sending unit. The gauge works intermittently going full scale then zero. I have looked for dirty connections. I have an ohmmeter. There are two connections on the tank. Any help is certainly appreciated. Thanks Bob

Take the pink wire loose from fuel tank sender and touch it to the black or green wire(ground wire), turn ign key on. Gauge should read full, if does gauge and wiring is probably ok and tank sender is bad.
