  • 704 shifter cable too short

I just bought a T 50 and it has a 704 copntrol. the shifter cable at rest (in neutral) is too short to reach the shifter pin on the linkeage at the motor. The engine still shifted but i had to keep playing woith the lever.

There doesn't apear to be a cable adjustment. At least at the engine end.

Is there some kind of adjustment or some place that could have shifted position inside the control???

    Any suggestions?

I haven't gotten the control out yet. I think they hung it in mid air and then built the entire boat aropund it.

    Thanks in advance.

The cable end is threaded on end of cable, loosen cable end to make adjustments. If it runs out of threads before reaches shifter then you would have make adjustment to cable end in control box.

Thank you for your advise. I have already done that.
It is like the cable has shifted. When the cable shifts the engine front at tye engine the block hits the end of the slide. When the cable pushes the cable the other way the end of the cable doesn't go quite far enough.

I can make a cable end 1/4" longer by making another end but i don't think this is the problem. It is like the rotating mechanism in the control has sliped.

I am tearing it apart this evening.
