  • Water Pump Replacement

I have a 2003 4-stroke 40. I know the water pump has never been replaced and have heard that it's worth the time and relatively low cost to do. Anybody agree? Also, if anyone has done one, how involved is it? I have the Seloc manual and can handle minor automotive projects like brakes and exhaust. Any thoughts?

With the service manual you shouldn't have any problems.

I did mine for the first time last year...with the manual & a photo "how to"...found it to be a modest DIY job. If 4S lower units are similar, this link may help: Tore Off Lower Unit ! - Maverick Boat Company Message Forum - Powered by FusionBB

I plan on doing it every other year. My tip: since your doing the job, go ahead and spend the extra money for the full replacement kit (all seals/gaskets) vs. just changing out the impellor.

Thanks "Slowbone". Much appreciated. The link you provided added nicely to my compilation of text, photos and verbal advice.
