no sparks from plugs on F50

Can you help me with this starting problem on my F50 carb motor. When I turn the key the starter turns flywheel but there is no spark coming out from plugs when i test them. The emergency lanyard cord is attached to the key switch panel when I am starting. What do you suggest I do to begin troubleshooting?

You would need a service manual and a peak reading voltmeter to test ignition on that motor. Try testing with a new set of spark plugs and check for spark in a dark place,hard to see spark on Yamaha motor's.
