  • Lower unit leak

I've got a gear oil leak in the lower unit. It just froze last night and I had the motor tilted up. I'm assuming it's just a seal, but have heard stories of water in the lower unit casing freezing and cracking the housing......does that really ever happen???? The leak I have is dripping between the housing and the prop.....maybe some water in the lower unit froze and pushed the oil past the seal. Does the seal really have to be replaced or can I just drain and replace the gear oil????

Water in gearcase can cause damage. Needs to resealed to fix the leak and check for damage.
