In June 2008 I purchased a new F40TLR outboard that now has 6 hours on it. It ran fine for the first 2 hours before an ignition coil went bad. Coil was replaced and it ran fine for about 3 hours and without warning it dropped power and finally shut off. Dealer had it for 2 weeks and said they had to remove the carbs and clean them. Besides the onboard fuel filter, there is also a Racor 10-micron fuel/water separator filter(dealer installed). Now the engine runs but very poorly. It hesitates on slow acceleration, has a flat spot that causes engine to die if you don't get past it quickly, and throughout the rpm range it surges. It also shakes at idle, which it did not do when first run. I am not too keen on the thought of returning to the dealer.
