  • Wrist pin issue with 1993- 130

Yes, it's making a ticking sound at idle. Mechanic tells me I need an entire rebuild as cylinder #1 is the problem? Compression is great. Carbs have been re-built. Can we just replace the faulty piston and move on? At worst can't we just replace all 4 pistons so that everything is balanced? Is it really necessary to bore the head, replace all the bearing, etc, etc? It's an old engine and I would like to get a few more years out of before moving on.

Suggestions on what to do and what is best?

    Thanks,

    Tommy

you can buy a NEW powerhead here for about the same price as a rebuild.

if you want to check pin bearings:
spin crank to tdc, then just past and stop or each cyl, then take large screwdriver on top of piston and hit with palm....if you feel the piston move without crank you have slack in the wrist.
