Fuel tank questions

I am hoping that I am in the right place or at least get some info on where to go to find out but here it goes. I have a 2002 campion allante 535. The suction line on the fuel tank was removed. The elbow that was connected on top had a plastic tube going down to I assume the bottom. The tube is broken off with approx. 3 inches being recovered. Could someone tell me if the tube actually goes to the bottom or is there something else attached to the tube. Thanks in advance.

Make the tube about 1/2 to 1 inch off the bottom of tank.
