Oil Element Change with Oil Change?

I have a '03 F9.9.
Owner's manual does not address changing the oil cleaner element when changing the oil.
However I see that it is a replaceable item in the parts catalogue.
Is it part of the normal maintenance procedure?

You can remove and clean the filter on the F9.9, replace it real dirty.
