Hello,
I'm replacing a transom clamp screw and pad on a 2005 F9.9MLHD. The new screw and pad just arrived and I need advice. The last ~1/2" of the screw has been milled down to ~1/4" diameter. The new pad has a hole drilled in the center of it that is slightly larger than the diameter of the milled end of the screw.
Question: What technique or tool is necessary to flare or roll the milled end of the screw so that the pad will not fall off and the end of the screw will not penetrate the transom when tightened? There is no room between the pad and the transom bracket to get any kind of center punch or or hammer to tap the end of the screw. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks,
Ron
