  • 95 yamaha motor overheats at high idle

    I use my boat in salt water. At 4000 rpms the horn goes off and stalls. I have tried impeller, thermostats. and flushing motor. could there be any pressure problems with my engine not getting enough water into the water jackets. Sure could use some advise on this problem.

    did you replace the whole kit ?? you should
    changeout PRV and if still no you may need to take off and clean water jackets....tho it shouldnt shut off...just buzz and go into rpm reduc/2k rpms.

    for piece of mind do a compression check.

          The PRV is located at the lower back of the powerhead, under that cover that the 1" hose is connected to. The cover is held down with two 10mm bolts. There is a stainless 25 psi spring beneath the cover along with the plastic PRV. A few years ago the PRV was redesigned to help eliminate blocking, so the new PRV is mushroom shaped. Here's a picture of what the kit looks like the actual PRV is on the right:
