If you jump the starter, without controls..do you get spark?

I'm wondering..as a way to test some of the components on my 1988 "90 ETLG" if I jump the starter, turn the engine over will the system spark without the key/controls hooked up (I don't have them yet) and I'm just trying to determine if the motor is worth fixing.

Yes it will fire, start and run but you wont be able to shut off without main harness connected.
