My 85hp 2stroke runs well through mid range but cuts out suddenly if I run over 4000 rpm for a few minutes. On a recent fishing trip we ran over 20 miles without incident, but 4 miles from home I sped up to 4000 rpm. After less than a mile it cut out. We had to come back in at just above a idle.
The water pump impeller is nearly new, the telltale stream is strong, I can hold my hand anywhere on the crankcase. Once it cuts out it misses on at least one cylinder for the rest of the day. The next morning it runs fine up to 4000 rpm again. Any ideas? Thanks.
