00 40hp Yamaha will not trim or start intermitably

I have a 00 40hp Yamaha outboard with power trim. I went to start it the other day and it did not crank nor did it's power trim work. I left it and came back a short time later and tried it again and it worked fine. When I got to the river it once again did not respond at all. I changed the battery and it worked but then a short time later it failed again. contacts on the battery are clean. is there a module that goes intermitant that would effect the power trim and starter? Thanks.

Sounds like loose or bad battery cable connections either at engine or battery, the only thing that the trim and starter have in common is battery, battery cables or main fuse on engine.
