  • Just Onboard and Need Help!

    Hello,
Just got onboard I bought a 1997 Grady White Tournament 223 with a 1997 200HP saltwater series II. Unfortunately the tachometer is defective so I bought a used tach 6Y5-8350T-81-00 from another boater who said it was off a 2000 model motor and that it would work on my 97'.

I have hooked it up color for color except there is an additional lead on this one compared to the old tach of a blue wire.

The tach does not work it just shows the letter E ??

Does anyone have a wiring diagram or advice to help me out... Here is how I have it hooked up:

Large connector with PINK, ORANGE, GREY, BLACK & WHITE. (plugged into matching conn.)

Small connector with GREEN & RED, GREEN & WHITE. (plugged onto matching conn.)

Same bunch of wires as above but individual BLACK, YELLOW, GREEN,.....BLUE? that I did not have on the old Tach. (all conn color for color except the Blue not sure where it should go?

And another pair of wires BLACK, BLUE. (conn. color for color)

ANY HELP WOULD BE APPRECIATED especially a wiring diagram.... Thanks Steve.

The blue wire is for the backlight in gauge, if you have it hooked up the way you it should work. if dip switches in back of tach are not set correctly it wouldn't read rpm's or trim angle of motor correctly but it would still display rpm's.
