  • Cold Telltale 2002 9.9 hr 4 stroke

I have a Yamaha 2002 9.9 4 stroke. This motor can run for 15-20 minutes on the hose and the telltale never warms up. Using a infrared non-contact thermometer the reading at the therostat housing is 140 degree, but the water coming out is stone cold. I change the thermostat and no change in telltale water temperture

    What else could it be?

    That's good....

The tell-tale is suppose to be cold.

The tell-tale is just a visual indication to you that the water pump IS pumping some water up to the powerhead.

If the tell-tale is hot you have a big problem.

      brittanydog,
I don't know if this pertains to your 2002 Yamaha 9.9 4 stroke, but just a heads up.

I have a 2003 Yamaha 8 hp 4 stroke and it has the hose flushing attachment also, but it is only to be used to flush the water passages while the engine is off.
If I want to run the engine then the leg of the motor has to be submerged in water (approx. 5 inches above the cavitation plate). Maybe this does not apply to year of motor.
