Endura 30 low power

Hi guys, new to the forum but with my history of boats I'm sure I'll be a regular

I'm a fly fishing guide in North Malaysia, originally from Europe and I have a mystery problem and I wonder if any of you can help solve it please?

About 3 months ago I bought a new Endura 30 2-stroke for one of my boats. Which was fantastic. However I went away for a month and since I've been back it's running rough and at about 1/2 power.

I had the carb cleaned thinking that was it. Changed the fuel. Cleaned the tank. . Changed the plugs. Changed prop. Swapped the entire electric system with another same type motor. The head has been off (I took it to the mechanics) The Reed valves checked. The fuel pump changed.

And it's still not running properly.

So apart from just running it until something breaks and I then know what it is, is there anything else I should check in the meantime?

Motor is only three months old but the shop who sold it to me said at the time no warranty. (Malaysia!).

Are you really confident the carb/cards were thoroughly disassembled and cleaned?....it sounds like you may still have a plugged jet....

Hi Robert,

Yes I'm sure. It was cleaned twice - by two separate people.

I ran it today, actually it's a little better. If I slowly increase power until it vibrates/misses/becomes confused and then back off and try again, i can increase speed this way. But it's still nowhere near where it was. Maybe it will come right on a longer drive?

I'll take it down the lake for a couple of days and report back.

Sure reads like a fuel delivery issue.

Betting you will have to dig into the carb again.

Those motors are supposed to be top notch. Last forever I have read.

How's the quality of your fuel (petrol) over there?

I thought it might be a problem coming from the tank, so I tried disconnecting the hose but no better.

I haven't had a problem with the fuel so far. But that's certainly possible. I'll try another service station on my next fill.

Still think you have a carb issue....any change in performance if you pump the primer ball when the issue occurs?

scary part is if you are running lean on a cylinder and keep running it hoping it will get better, you may toast a piston/cylinder and sling a rod.
as Rodbolt said check to see what you have and do not have.
spark and timing along with compression are easy things to rule out.
if running lean spraying a fuel mix into a carb throat while the problem is showing up will tell if the problem is lack of fuel.
too much fuel is a hard one to test, but you can pinch off a fuel line to each carb to see if that makes a difference.

how many cylinders and carbs does this 30 have?

A leaking fuel pump can dump extra fuel into the crankcase of the cylinder running the pump..

But trash hiding in the pump and lines will hit cleaned carbs and plug things back up if not cleaned and flushed out well

Here in North Malaysia Yamaha is the engine to have. Durability and getting parts I think are the reason. I have a Honda 15 4-stroke that I broke the gear box on. I had to get parts from Australia! Mind you I used it for two years. Was - still am - hoping to get 5 from the Endura.

There's not much else I can do except for run it for a few days. I've taken it to the local town twice as well as have a mate (Police Boat Mechanic) look at it and take it apart. Every time I take it town I lose 2 days fishing and he can't test it because it only happens when pushing the boat and not in a bucket... (I've invited him fishing )

And no, I don't eat them because I like to catch them more than once

What do the plugs look like? Can you supply the exact model and serial number on the transom bracket?

Yes I understand that they have been replaced. I am asking what they look like now after they have been run with the engine acting up. Plugs can be very telling of what maybe happening.

Black sooty, wet with fuel, do they both look the same.?
