  • Hpdi break-in procedure

I am currently rigging a replacement powerhead on a 2006 VZ225TLR HPDI, and am having a problem finding any break-in instructions. Does anyone have some info for me??? thanks, Peter

The running procedure is explained in the owner's manual, available to you at Yamaha Outboards

Only thing to be concerned with on the motor itself is to bleed the oil pump of any/all air bubbles. Some will use a hand held pump and inject an added dose of TC-W3 oil directly into each throttle valve.

Several things can be done to help improve the life of that model. Use gasoline rated at 91/93 octane, prop the motor so that it can run at or near 6000 RPM when the throttle is wide open, run the motor for at least a minute or so after it has been shifted into gear and don't go stomping down on the gas pedal if you have a hotfoot.
