Hi,I've got a 1989 30SG and it has always ran rough at idle. Playing with the choke seems to smooth it out. It runs perfect with throttle added.Would appreciate any sugestions!
Thanks!
duke,
Sounds like a classic case of clogged carbs.
It that motor was allowed to set up for more than a month w/o being run, and the storage procedure in the owner's manual was not followed, then the carbs are probably clogged with gum/varnish.
You could try a shock treatment with RingFree or SeaFoam - sometimes that works.
If not, try pulling the jets and squirting some Berryman's Chemtool into the orifices. Also, the drain plug at bottom of carb bowl - pull it and drain fuel and then do the squirt routine.
If none of the above works, then time to tear down the carbs, clean, and do a kit install.
Oh, yeah, if those spark plugs are at least a year old, replace them.
Good luck ,
