I twice over cleaned the carbs and next run lost a cylinder. Resigned myself to an ignition issue and schelped it to the Yamaha dealer. After two weeks they called and quoted me a grand for carb rebuild and another $300 to clean the fuel system. Apparently, all my work was un-done with the following turn of the key due to a contaminated fuel system. Basically lost half my season that year.
Instead of spending the $300 on cleaning, I replaced the fuel system with a portable topside tank sized for my habits. I now remove all fuel from the boat between trips and leave the tank open and upside down. For me, no fuel means no fuel to go bad. I haven't had issue since.
