2001 F40TLRZ Timing Belt

Is it possible to adjust the tension on the timing belt of an F40TLRZ outboard?
There is about 1/2 in. of play in the belt and the manual calls for no more than 1/3 in. I don't see any idler that can be used to tighten the belt.

No tensioner is used on that model motor. No way to add or remove tension to the belt.

What manual are you looking in? LIT-18616-??-??

On what page are you reading about the amount of allowable slack in the belt?
