let me tell ya a story.
it is about the one that got me banned from another site.
it is about T-stats.
on the old OMC crossflow V4 motors the original brass T stats had vent holes.
it also had a small twin set of vent holes in the t stat holder.
now on this motor the t-stats are mounted below the t-stats so the vents have nothing to do with air.
sometime in the mid eighties omc did away with the vent in the t-stat changed the brass to stainless and only drilled one small hole in the holder.
the holes allowed water to flow so the hot water could exit the head and open the T-stats.
the complaint was start the motor and let it idle.
the overheat alarm would come on in about 5 min.
shut it off and let it sit a few minutes and it would run fine all day.
the cure was open the holder hole to about 1/8 and cut a notch in both poppets.
