  • propellor stuck

    it was a long time ago that the prop was released from the shaft...
    now its stuckt on it!...
    any clever tips to get it off without damaging the prop??? (yamaha "G" type)

    Maybe something like a steering wheel puller would work.

      we tried that!..concerning is that the rubber between the 2 parts of the prop will seperate...

        jan,
        I would tilt the motor all the way up and then squirt some Liquid Wrench, or equivalent, onto the shaft where the prop splines are.
        Let set overnite, and try the puller again. Put some pressure on the prop with the puller, and tap the prop hub with the blunt end of a socket drive extension, or something similiar.
        If that fails, then you will have to apply heat to the prop hub while under pressure from the puller, and tapping. And, yes, you will probably damage the rubber insert of the hub - but not too expensive to get new bushing at prop shop.
        And next time, be sure to lube the prop shaft and prop splines with a quality marine grease - I use Mobil 1 Synthetic for its water resistance.
        Remove the prop at least once a year to re-lube the splines and check for fishing line wrapped around shaft that will eventually cut into the prop shaft seal.
