  • nmea 0183 versus nmea 2000

    Hello, i have a my old gps NMEA 0183 ver 2 4800 baud, and my engine have nmea 2000 network, please tell me if it is compatible? if i connect my gps NMEA 0183 ver 2 4800 baud to engine network nmea2000 it will work?

    0183 and 2000 are communication protocols - a "language" for transferring certain data between devices

    they are not in any way compatible in the method used - either electrically, or the data "packets" . They can not be directly connected.


    there are devices made/sold which will "translate" some data

    However, in 0183 there are "no words to describe" the engine parameters anyway.
