Hi, last time I was out I lost rpm from 5100 to 3800 and was struggling to get back up. I replaced plugs, fuel water separator, and drained carbs bowls. It starts and idles fine and when I took off it hit 4700 and slowly climbed to 5400. Then it backed back off to 4800 and now surges from 4800-4600 and then sometimes hits 5100. It sounds like a fuel problem (fuel pumps?) dirty carbs or a bad coil. How can I test the coils out of water on the hose? I'm wondering if a coil is heating up and failing. But at $90 a piece I'm not going to guess. Thanks

1993 200 trxx loss of wot rpm

So after sitting for about an hour and a half, i pumped the squeeze ball a couple times before we left and it started without choke and was fine. Took off, instantly got up to speed and 5200 rpm. About 2-3 minutes of wot it started to drop off again back to 4800 rpm. It will stay there until i back off and then go back when i go to WOT. Made it back and pulled the boat home
I took the spark plugs out to see if one was noticeably different or to see if I could see if a coil wasn't firing. I did see one plug that looked like a sandy color but not much different than the others.
I then pumped the the squeeze ball and saw gas leaking from the little filter/cup in the engine. It over flows and squirts out the top. So I have the oring to fix that.
I then unbolted the top fuel pump, and squeezed the ball, and gas pours out the back. So i am assuming that means its not good either.
I unbolted the lower fuel pump, squeezed the ball, and gas drips out of that one. So I have both fuel pumps to replace that. I am wondering now if the spark plug that looks different was starving for fuel? Its the starboard top if looking at the engine on the ground facing the front of the boat.

Leak at filter would mean air in the fuel system as it is on the suction side of pump.
Yhis would cause lean situation.
leaking pumps would dump fuel into the crankcase of certain cylinders causing over rich in those cylinders
fix what you found and then test again

I was hoping so, but no. Still having a really hard time getting up to 4500 rpm. I don't have any leaks now so the carbs will come off tomorrow for a cleaning. Hopefully that's it. When I pulled the plugs I looked in each cylinder and don't see any carbon or damage on the Pistons but I haven't compression tested yet. I'm hoping to pull the carbs and clean them and put them back on tomorrow morning.

Goes W/O saying, make sure you pull all jets and can visibly see light thru them...
You should have an o-ring in the under cowl fuel filter, part #6 below:
(either a typo for the exact model #, or your specific engine isn't listed)
Re-check for the o-ring, you do need one in there or you have a fuel leak(and that will cause issues).
As your "carbs were just cleaned", someone may have forgotten /dropped / lost that seal...
