  • Yamaha f150 won’t start

    Been having some issue with the boat starting. The starter will engage the flywheel but won't spin to start it. I have replaced the batter with a new one (even though the old one tested good), replaced the starter and still have the same problem. I am guessing it is the ignition or the starter relay...which is where my question comes in. On this make and model is the starter relay the same part as the trim/tilt relay? What could I be missing?

    no, the T&T relay does operate the starter.

    if the starter jumps up and engages the fly wheel , then you know your ignition switch works

    can you turn the motor/ flywheel by hand or is it froze / locked up?

    if you cannot turn the motor/ flywheel by hand, DROP THE LOWER UNIT AND TRY IT AGAIN

      The starter relay contacts inside the relay can indeed cause your issues.
      Bad contacts doesn't allow for full power to the starter

      I had similar issues and tracked it down to the relay.

      Below is a pic of the actual relay contacts from inside my failed unit:
