We have a 2000, F115 Yamaha, it's really been trouble free, other than a clogged injector, it has just started making a high pitch whine noise when running at around 1800 rpm and above. Does anyone have any idea what might be causing this?

Is it more of a whistling (air) noise? Does it do it out of gear, too? If so, maybe it's something to do with the intake (dirty, or something out of place)? I don't really know, but those are just a few thoughts going through my head.

It's not a whistle noise, more of a squeal. Thanks for the info!!

You'll see numerous bolts on the outside of the LU. There's also one under the trim tab. (bolts 8 and #6) Those need to come out. They'll be a water tube hanging down, don't disturb it.
You also may have a piece of hose for the speedometer that gets disconnected.
I don't know if there's a separate linkage for the shifter. The newer models have a splined shaft so there's nothing to do there. It likely needs to be in neutral pulling apart/re-assembling( not positive on your model)
The LU will drop out then.
The long drive shaft will have a machined surface approx halfways up. Clean and re-grease with Yamaha's WATERPROOF GREASE. (DO NOT USE MARINE WHEEL BEARING GREASE, etc. IT'LL BE SQUEAKING WITHIN A MONTH OR TWO).
While your there, if you don't know the age of the water pump, I'd replace it. Might take 45 minutes going slow. Get the kit, not individual parts.. Re-grease the splines too when re-assembling..
