F90TLR tilt trim problem

My yahama F90tlr was manufactured in 08/05. It was sold as a 2006 model. Would like to verify this is correct before ordering parts. My main problem is with the trim tilt. All iget is clicking at the motor and throttle. I nhave done all the checking at connections power etc. all seem fine. I can tap the trim motor with hammer a,nd it will work but not for long. Tap with hammer again and it works. I have been told that this means the trim motor is bad. Would like thoughts on this and some idea as to how difficult to change myself if i just replace the motor. It looks like the whole assembly can be removed fairly easy but dont want to fool myself.

chances are if you have to smack that sucka to get it to respond, the trim motor is mucked up, maybe brushes, maybe water leaked in and created havoc.
I`m pretty sure you can remove the top cover from the motor, and then remove just the trim motor without having to disassemble the whole gig from the outboard.
