Opinions on Outboard Jet Drive vs Prop

My kids are just reaching age to legally drive the boat in NJ. for safety reasons, I'm considering the jet drive 4 strokes to a prop. Based on the stats and performance I'm surprised we don't see more of them on center consoles, etc. Any feedback or experiences appreciated.

I understand it de-rates the HP rating of motor so needs higher HP for same performance
