can a auxiliary charging cable be installed in a 2002 F225TXR (pn 69J-81949-01-00) by replacing the voltage regulator with the 2003 voltage regulator. (pn 69J-81960-12-00)
Looks more complicated than that.
On the later years, the aux charge wiring comes through the "drive unit assembly" aka fuel pump driver so that's different as well.
Plus the harness...
well now i wonder what is wired up... I just bought the motors and i have some sort of field spliced wire in one of the green wires between the stator and the voltage regulator/rectifier which is also the aux charging cable.... the plugs and wires got burned (no kidding) and the 16g spliced wire is also connected to a #6g
however the isolator circuit is already there.
ALL V6 Yamaha since about 1990 for the US market have the isolator circuit already INSTALLED from the factory.
simply add the wire from the circuit to the battery.
would love some input...
diagram, schematic,,
I just bought the boat, never have owned a 4stroke, so this is a learning curve.
I have something non factory wired in/on the starboard motor (cannot see it fully until i remove the flywheel) it seem to be working. it is attached between the stator and the Voltage regulator/rectifier
my usual mechanic is swampped w/ summer rush and cannot get to my port engine that i apparently messed up by inncorrectly attaching a charger.
just need some insight
The 2002 Yamaha product information guide does not indicate the F225TLRA as having an isolator lead capability. The 2003 PIG does.
The Yamaha parts catalog does not indicate an isolator lead for the F225TLRA. Later F225 parts catalogs show the isolator lead.
The service manual tends to indicate that there are two outputs from the R/R but the connector is not the same as for the 2003 and later versions of the F225. Could this lead be disconnected from the other lead and be used to charge a second battery independently of the main battery? Maybe. Maybe not.
If you are going to be working on your motor you really need to get the service manual. As pitiful as it may be it is better than having nothing.
Fascinating. Both leads end up at the same lug on the starter motor?
An obvious difference here, from 2003-on, is the absence of the (mysterious) "fuel pump driver and isolator"
Are you thinking that the "fuel pump driver and isolator" is in some way connected to the isolator output lead that is used to charge a second battery?
Here is a snippet from the F200C/F225C SM that covers 2004 and later motors. Clearly it shows the fuel pump driver and isolator.
"Are you thinking that the "fuel pump driver and isolator" is in some way connected to the isolator output lead that is used to charge a second battery? "
I am.
"zoom out" a little on your wiring diagram, Boscoe
Yam shows the gizmo in two different places
Now that I think about it some more I believe that the fuel pump driver and the isolator are in integrated unit, even though the WDM in the SM does not depict them as such. Very strange combination of components.
Anyway, after many words and pictures it is so much simpler and cost effective to use the Yandina combiner than it is to fiddle with silly Yamaha stuff.

indeed.
I assumed it was "the rectifier" the first time I spied it; then was puzzled to learn it was not.
Its got, what, FIVE different wire connectors attached to it?
looks like a joke.
almost as amazing as the rubber tubing connected to the cowling latch.....
