  • engines not 'speaking' to gauges

The boat is a twin rig
    Engines are a pair of 3.4 litre Yamaha F250's model F250BET and FL 250 BET Serial numbers 6P2 X 1027357 G and 6P3 x 1013319
They were some of the first to have fly by wire.
When originally fitted we had round gauges.
The engines worked well for many years before we put on the shelves as 'spare engines'

We now have a requirement to bring these engines back into service and have placed on a boat. We fitted a newer control box, and new square gauges 2 x tachometer and fuel.

Initially there was no communication between control box and engines. The engines would not start. Eventually we fitted an older style control box which linked to a two switch keys witch panel (the older style, each engine on a separate key). We reset the control box via the Yamaha diagnostics.

The engines now start but we cannot get any information up on any of the gauges. Turn the keys on, we get the welcome to Yamaha initialisation on the gauges, you can quiz the gauges via the mode buttons but all gauges just show a flashing dash where the RPM should be. The trim indicators just flash at the lowest one bar.

With our Yamaha engineer we have scratched our heads but not been able to make any progress. Looking for ideas.

All wiring is sound - it's new
As we get the welcome initialisation and can quiz the gauges there is power to the gauges. It seems to be the gauges are not receiving a signal from the engine

    Any ideas how to solve?

    Thanks

    Tony

How is the remote control connected to the hub - you should be using the two 4 pin plugs not the single 6 pin one (if it is present, i'm only familiar with newer DEC controls)

Using the separate 4 pin plugs from control box to hub

      Thanks for the response.
We are using the separate plugs, port and starboard to the hubs.
We have reset the gauges but of course they should recognise port engines on first plug in but didn't. Resetting the gauge to the engines hasn't worked hence we are looking for others who may have experienced similar

Electrical power for the gauges comes from the key switch. Data comes from a connector attached to the control box. I would be checking the data circuit. There should be two and only two data connectors. These are four pin connectors but only two wires will be used. One blue and one white.

Now keep in mind some later control boxes have three data connectors. Two for Command Link (square or round black and white gagues) and one for Command Link Plus (rectangular colour gauge). Command Link Plus is not applicable to 3.2 liter F250's. If you have a later style control box with three connectors, but you are using the wrong two connectors, then I don't think the gauges will work.

        Capiche?

        Should look like this
