I have a hpdi that I can't get to start because there is no spark. Someone suggested that a faulty CPS could be the cause. How do I test it to see if it is functioning? Thnaks.

How do I test a crank position sensor?

Too bad the year and model of your motor is not known. There are HPDI's and then there are HPDI's.
A test harness is generally attached to the sensor, between the sensor and the wire harness. The output peak voltage is then checked for specifications at various RPM's.
The resistance of the sensor can also be checked.
Finally, the air gap between the sensor and the flywheel is checked to make sure it is within specification.
This is all in your service manual.
